Kanhaiya Kumar, Jignesh Mevani be part of Congress

Former JNU college students’ union president Kanhaiya Kumar and Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mewani on Tuesday joined the Congress within the presence of social gathering chief Rahul Gandhi on the AICC headquarters in New Delhi.

Kumar, who was earlier a member of the Communist Party of India (CPI), had unsuccessfully contested the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Begusarai in Bihar in opposition to Giriraj Singh of the BJP.

“The Congress party is like a big ship. If it’s saved, I believe many people’s aspirations, Mahatma Gandhi’s oneness, Bhagat Singh’s courage andBR Ambedkar’s idea of equality will be protected too. This is why I have joined,” Kumar stated together with his typical flourish.
